The Basics
How do I get started?
Sign up to create an account. Fill in your details. Start to shop and earn cashback...
How does Give or Take/Cashback work?
When you buy products online via Give or Take, a referral fee is earned for that sale. Give or Take passes 100% of that referral fee onto its members as cashback. Cashback works in a similar way to earning points on your supermarket loyalty card - except that it's cash and it's usually much more generous. The cashback you earn is not taken off your bill; instead it's credited to your Give or Take account where you can choose to "Take" it for yourself or "Give" it to charity. All you have to do is follow a few simple rules:
- Always be certain when you make a purchase at a retailer site that you click to that site via Give or Take. If you have been surfing a number of sites, perhaps comparison sites, or other sources of information about a product or service, please be sure to come back to Give or Take and click through directly to the retailer site. You will also need to make sure your shopping basket is empty on the retailer site before clicking through from Give or Take.
- If there is a problem with your order that requires the retailer to contact you, e.g. if there is a problem with your payment, or the retailer has a problem with stock and offers you an alternative product, the retailer may treat your amended order as a new order. This in turn may affect your entitlement to cashback. If this occurs we strongly advise you to cancel your order and place a new one via Give or Take.
The length of time it takes merchants to pay Give or Take varies, but it typically takes any where between 30 and 60 days, or more in some cases. As soon as the status of your sale is received the cashback will be added to your account as either "pending", "deleted" or "confirmed".
How do I choose to "Give"?
Log into your account, and set it to "Give". Then choose one of our charity partners from the list to donate your cashback to.
How do I choose to "Take"?
Log into your account, and set it to "Take". Make sure that you have completed both your "customers address" and your "takers address". If you have not completed both address fields our system will not be able to detect your account for payment.
Do you retain a percentage of the referral fees?
No. Give or Take gives members 100% of the referral fee.
Does it cost me more to shop via Give or Take?
No, the cost is the same as if you were to visit the retailer's website directly.
Are there any hidden charges?
Setting up an account is free, but we do charge a £5 annual admin fee if you choose to "Take" your cashback. This fee is deducted from your first payment, and will cover your admin costs for 12 months from that date.
Members who choose to "Give" incur no admin fee.
Free money?... Only a £5 annual fee?... Is it too good to be true?
NO it's not! Cashback sites are a new and popular way to shop online. Cashback shopping is the future of online shopping, and as well as letting you earn money on everything you buy Give or Take also gives you the option to donate it to a charity of your choice. "Give" your cashback to charity, or "Take" it for yourself!

Payment & Security
Is Give or Take a trustworthy site?
Give or Take is a secure site. We use high-grade encryption to protect your personal data, and have been issued security certification by Equifax Secure Inc. Give or Take DO NOT pass on member information to third party organisations.
How can I be paid my cashback?
Give or Take is a secure site that offers payment by BACS. An online BACS payment directly into your chosen bank account is a fast and secure way to receive your cashback within 3 days of the payment being created.
If you do not wish to be paid by BACS you can also receive your cashback in the form of a cheque. Please be aware that cheques will take longer to process, and are liable to being lost in the post as we use standard Royal Mail 1st class postage.
You can specify your payment preference in the "my account" section of the site.
If I opt to be paid by BACS what will the payment appear as in my account?
If you have specified to be paid your cashback by BACS transfer directly into your bank account the payment will appear as UK WEB MEDIA CREDIT. UK Web Media are our founding company, and all cashback payments will appear in this name.
Why do I have to wait for my account to reach £25 before being paid?
£25 is a viable amount for us to pay all members at. If you want to set a higher payment threshold you can also be paid once you earn £50, £75 or £100 confirmed cashback, just log into your account to change your payment threshold value.
How do you allocate donations to my chosen charity?
All "Give" accounts are screened in the payment run at the beginning of the month. If the total confirmed cashback from members supporting the same cause reaches over £10 then that charity is issued a cheque, or BACS payment.
How is payment made?
Once you have earned confirmed cashback that exceeds your payment threshold, you will be paid in the next month's payment run. We will automatically issue you an online BACS payment directly into your bank account, or send you out a cheque in the post. Payments are made at the beginning of every month. For example earn over your payment threshold of confirmed cashback in June, and you will be paid in the payment run at the beginning of July.
I have earned over my payment threshold of confirmed cashback but not received my cashback, where is it?
You may not have been issued your cashback because:
- You have not completed both address fields in your account
- You haven't set your account to "Take", so it's still on default setting to "Give"
- You have not completed your bank account details
If none of these statements are true then please contact us directly to investigate the status of your cashback.
What happens if suspicious activity is detected on my account?
Give or Take monitors the activity of all sales, and any accounts that display a suspicious number or pattern of sales are made in-active whilst Give or Take investigates the situation. If the account activity is proven to be genuine it will be reactivated. If fraud is detected then the account will be frozen and the relevant authorities and retailers notified.

Cashback Questions
I have made a purchase through Give or Take why has the cashback not appeared in my account?
Cashback is NOT an immediate process.
On average it takes around 14 days for a sale to be displayed in your account, in some cases it can take up to 30. Timescales differ according to each retailer.
Other reasons your sale may take a while to be displayed:
- There is a 14 day returns policy on the product. E.g. fashion/mobiles/shoes etc.
- It is a pre-order. This will be displayed as a zero value in your account, once you receive the material goods a value will be entered
- It is a hotel/event/flight etc. and the date of the booking has not yet passed
Please also check the conditions for each retailer.
What do I do after 30 days if my sale has still not appeared?
If your sale has not appeared in your account then it has not been successfully tracked. Log into your account and submit a dispute form for each sale that has gone missing. Occasionally sales are lost, and we do our best to trace your missing cashback for you, and we are successful in 95% of cases.
Please note that missing sales for eBay and Amazon cannot be traced due to the size and style of these particular sites.
How long will it take for my dispute to be resolved?
When a dispute is received it is sent to the relevant merchant within a week. The speed of resolution then varies from merchant to merchant. Some disputes are resolved within 14 days others can take up to 3 months, and very occasionally longer. We ask that you be patient as we have no power to speed up the resolution of these sales. We rely on the dispute information being fed back to us, and we update members' accounts as soon as we receive any new data.
How long will it take before my "pending" cashback is confirmed?
The length of time it takes for retailers to confirm cashback varies from retailer to retailer. As a general rule of thumb smaller value items such as CDs, clothes, cosmetics etc will be confirmed with a month. Large value items such as flights, furniture, and holidays will take longer. Please be aware that with service products such as insurance, bank accounts, electricity etc there is a general policy from all service providers that they validate approximately 3 months from the date of the contract being taken out. The 3 month validation period insures that the provider has received 3 months worth of payments from the client enough to cover a substantial amount of the cashback, and to satisfy in their opinion that the applicant is a credible customer who is not going to cancel their contract.
What do the cashback status codes mean?
The cashback status codes are for guidance only and represent Give or Take's best understanding of the status of the payment.
- Pending - The retailer has notified us that a transaction has taken place. However this is still subject to final confirmation and payment being received from the retailer. The length of time that a transaction remains as pending depends on a variety of factors, such as individual retailer purchase confirmation and billing methods.
- Confirmed - The payment has cleared into your Give or Take account, and your balance has been updated.
- Deleted - The payment has been deleted by the retailer, not by Give or Take. This may be because the sale has been cancelled or the conditions of sale not met. If your sale is valid but deleted by mistake then you need to submit a dispute form for this sale.
- Disputing - You have submitted a dispute form for this sale, and it's under investigation
I am due to be paid but my total confirmed cashback now reads zero! Why?
At the beginning of the month when accounts are being processed for payment all the "confirmed" cashbacks involved in that month's payment will be displayed as "processing", and your total confirmed cashback will read as £0.00. Once payment has been processed all "processing" cashbacks will be displayed as "paid", and you will receive your cashback.
Can I earn cashback when I buy or use gift certificates online?
In most cases, cashback cannot be earned when you purchase a gift certificate. This is because cashback is usually paid when the gift certificate is redeemed. Otherwise, the retailer would effectively be paying out cashback twice! Most retailers will award cashback when you redeem your gift certificate.
Can I use a voucher or other promotional discount code, and still earn cashback?
Generally speaking, vouchers are only supposed to be used in conjunction with the website or organisation that issued them. If the voucher or promotional discount is featured on Give or Take then you are entitled to use this code/voucher. If you use a voucher or promotional discount that is provided by a source other than Give or Take we cannot guarantee that cashback will be credited.
- If you try to combine a "refer a friend" code with cashback. Some websites will not allow you to use both, as either Give or Take or your friend can be the referrer.
- Often vouchers state that they cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer, therefore if Give or Take has an extra cashback offer running or other similar promotion this may prevent you from using a voucher that would be valid with the standard rate of cashback.
Can I earn cashback on non-Internet orders or orders not completed wholly online?
No, cashback is only paid for orders that are completed completely online. If there is a problem with your order that requires your purchase to be completed in some other way the retailer will not pay cashback.
Orders placed online that are later revised by phone or email are not eligible for cashback. For example, this includes insurance quotes that are obtained online but are later confirmed over the phone. Additionally, if there is a problem with your order that requires the retailer to contact you, e.g. if there is a problem with your payment, or the retailer has a problem with stock and offers you an alternative product, the retailer may treat your amended order as a new order. This in turn may affect your entitlement to cashback. If this occurs we strongly advise you to cancel your order and place a new one via Give or Take. Otherwise the payment of cashback cannot be guaranteed.
Can I keep the cashback on cancelled orders?
No! If your order has been cancelled but the transaction is not shown as reversed in your account, then you should inform Give or Take at the earliest opportunity so that the transaction can be removed from your account. You are not permitted to withdraw these funds. Knowingly withdrawing funds that you are not eligible to receive constitutes fraud, and your account we be deactivated, and the relevant authorities notified.

What are cookies, and why do I need to enable them before I use Give or Take?
Cookies are small pieces of software that are usually automatically downloaded by your computer. Cookies help you to log in to websites, store your preferences and record what items you have in your shopping basket.
Cookies can also be used to identify the sites from which customers have come. It is this feature of cookies that allows us to track your cashback. When you click on a link to a retailer from Give or Take a cookie is downloaded to your browser to tell the retailer where you are visiting from.
If you do not enable cookies on your pc then no shopping history can be stored, and so you will not earn any cashback on your purchases.
How do I use a voucher/discount code?
The process for using voucher/discount codes is very similar from retailer to retailer. One of the stages of the order process usually contains an option to enter a voucher/discount code. Simply copy and paste the voucher/discount code we have provided into this box and follow the instructions. Your order should then be updated to reflect the changed price. If the order amount is not updated then please check with the retailer that the voucher has been applied before completing your purchase.
